Safe Place for Children
We believe our church has always been a safe place for children. From our beginnings, we have done criminal background screenings for employees who served as nursery caregivers and educators with children.
With the increase of adult predators at large nationally, our leadership decided several years ago it was time to add child abuse safeguards among all staff and volunteer leaders with children and youth. We call this, “Safe Place for Children,” in which all staff and volunteers now undergo a child abuse prevention training. All our preschool staff, and all staff and volunteers who might do overnight events with children and youth have had a criminal background check.
We have many practices in place for keeping our children safe. For example, our Sunday morning nursery requires that parents fill out a form and have their photo taken on their first visit to the Grace nursery. The photo and completed form are used to match children with their parents after the service. We also have a two-adult rule: whenever infants or children are in the care of Grace employees or volunteers, two adults are required to be present at all times. These and other practices makes Grace church a “Safe Place for Children.”
